Martin Odegaard was the star of the show as Arsenal defeated Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday at the Ammex stadium. The Arsenal’s skipper provided 1 goal and 1 assist to help stretch the gunner on top of the log to seven points after Manchester City failed to beat Everton at the Etihad.
Odegaard has scored 7 goals this season, which is the most scored by any midfielder in the Premier League this season. He has also notched 5 assists this season in the Premier League, the most he has recorded in the colours of Arsenal. There is no gainsaying that the Norwegian is having his best season at the Emirates.
Martin Odegaard has always been destined to be a good player. He holds the record for
● Youngest goalscorer in Tippeligaen(Norwegian league) history
● Youngest debutant in Real Madrid history
● Youngest player to play a UEFA European Championship qualifying match
● Youngest player to make his debut for Norway
Real Madrid saw the potential in Odegaard and that influenced their decision to sign him in 2015 from the Norwegian club Stromsgodset at the age of 15. He could not make his debut for Los Blancos until the following year when he came on as a substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo against Getafe in Real Madrid’s last game of the season.
Odegaard left the Spanish capital for the Eredivise where he played for both SC Heerenveen and SBV Vitesse in search of more game time and exposure.
Odegaard returned to Spain in 2019 but could not break into Real Madrid’s team and he was loaned out to Real Sociedad. He caught the eye of many suitors while playing for La Real and he was responsible for Real Madrid’s exit from the Copa Del Rey that season.
Real Madrid thought he was ready and did not loan him out in the 2020/2021 season. Odegaard failed to impress and could not get enough game time and that affected his decision to move to Arsenal on loan in the winter transfer window of that season.
He made 14 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s men in the Premier League following that move and he did enough to fetch him a permanent move to the Emirates.
Odegaard is not the only captain of Arsenal at the moment, he is one of the first names on the team sheet and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the moment. From not good enough at Real Madrid to Arsenal’s star boy, what a trajectory it has been for Odegaard.
He is growing to become an all-around midfield with his vision, eye for goal and defensive work rate. The sky is the starting point for the young Norwegian midfielder.
