The Spanish Segunda division side SD Ponferradina who has Nigeria’s Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali on his payroll has appointed David Gallego as the club’s new manager.
The former manager of the team was sacked after the team played out a 1-1 draw against Real Oviedo in a league game on Saturday.
Gallego developed an extensive career as a player, which led him to join clubs such as Levante UD, Córdoba CF, Hércules CF and RC Recreativo.
Subsequently, he began his career on the bench and joined the organization chart of RCD Espanyol.
His evolution led him to take charge of the subsidiary team, with which he debuted in Second B in the 16/17 season.
In the final stretch of the following campaign, he worked as coach of the first team, which he directed during five games in the First Division.
Later he rejoined RCD Espanyol B, which was promoted to Segunda B. And in the 19/20 season, he again led the first team for eight games.
In the 20/21 season, he joined Real Sporting de Gijón, which he managed during 70 LaLiga SmartBank games.
