In continuation in its preparations for the 2022/23 season, Sunshine Stars FC of Akure will compete in the Taiwo Ogunjobi Gold Cup tourney at the Remo Stars’ Stadium, Ikenne and FC Ebeide ground, Shagamu Ogun State, from September 22nd through October 1st 2022.
The Akure Gunner’s has its fondly called, are drawn in group A with two other top flight sides in Remo Stars and Niger Tornadoes alongside Gateway United FC and Hammola FC.
The Owena Whales have a rich history at the prestigious tournament, being the first side to win the pre-season competition in 2013 at Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
Recall that the Akure landlords won the Ogunjobi Gold Cup again on home soil in 2018 to be the tourney’s joint most successful club till date.
The team,’s new Gaffer, Edith Agoye in a session with Sunshine Stars Medial said that the tournament will do his side a lot of good as he looks to assemble a strong team for the new season.
_”Being a preseason tournament we hope to achieve our aim of participating, which is one, to assess ourselves and see how far we have gone in terms of preparations._
_”Also we want to compete with other top teams who are already well prepared, this will be very useful to us. And we are going there to do well and try win the competition as well.”_ Agoye submitted.
Sunshine Stars who last competed at the tourney in 2019, will begin their 2022 Gold Cup campaign against Remo Stars at the Sky Blues home ground in Ikenne, Thursday.
