Formula 1 has announced Susie Wolff as the Managing Director of the F1 Academy category.
The Academy was founded to develop and prepare young female drivers to progress to higher levels of competition.
F1 Academy was announced in November 2022 as an all-female driver series which will feature five teams, 15 drivers and 21 races at a host of selected F1 circuits.
Wolff, announced on Wednesday, has been brought in to improve the management structure and offer her unique insight to facilitate this project.
Wolff has a wealth of motorsport experience, both as a driver and team leader, from her previous driver development role with Williams that includes leading the Venturi Formula E squad as Team Principal, racing in DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft” i.e. German Touring Car Championship), and several F1 free practice outings.
She has always been vocal about female’s participation in F1, and in 2016, she launched “DARE TO BE DIFFERENT” – a call to action aimed at driving female talent by inspiring the next generation and increasing the participation of females at all levels and aspects of the sport.
In her role as the Managing Director of the F1 Academy, Wolff will report directly to F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, spearheading the development of female talent in motorsport and focusing on creating a successful pathway to higher categories in the F1 pyramid in the nearest future.
