Neymar has expressed that his recent injury was the most devastating moment he has ever experienced. The 31-year-old was emotional and had to be carried off the field during the 2-0 loss against Uruguay. As a result of tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee, the Al-Hilal forward will undergo surgery.
“It is an incredibly sorrowful moment, the most devastating experience of my life,” Neymar expressed on Instagram.
“I recognize my own strength, but this time I will rely even more on the support of my loved ones and friends.”
The exact duration of Neymar’s absence is uncertain, but typically, recovery from an ACL tear can take anywhere from eight to 10 months, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.
“Brazilian and global football require a healthy and fully recovered Neymar, as the sport is at its happiest when he graces the field,” stated Ednaldo Rodrigues, the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation.
Neymar, the highest-scoring male player in Brazil’s history, encountered multiple injury setbacks in recent years. During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he missed two matches after sustaining an injury in Brazil’s opening game against Serbia. Additionally, ankle injuries hindered him during his time with Paris St-Germain, with his final season in France being shortened in February due to ankle surgery.
“Enduring an injury and subsequent surgery is already challenging, let alone having to face it all over again after four months of recovery,” Neymar emphasized.
