Ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Ghana, tragedy has struck the camp of Zambia’s Shepolopolo as one of the strikers Norin Betani has passed on.
Betani died in hospital at the age of 24, as announced by the Football Federation of Zambia (FAZ ) Wednesday morning.
“FAZ general secretary Reuben Kamanga said the player reported to the camp while ill and was taken to hospital for a thorough examination on the recommendation of doctors, Betani was taken to the hospital closest to the team’s camp.
The patient was then sent to the university hospital on Monday and was under medical care until her death.
The player had been “diagnosed with ‘suspected malaria”, the FA statement stated.
Striker for the Indeni Roses in the Zambian championship, Betani scored 11 goals last season and 4 this season. She played her last club match on February 11 against YASA Queens.
