Head Coach of Nigeria U23 National Team Salisu Yusuff has assured Nigerians of a positive result in the first leg of the final phase of the U23 AFCON qualifier against their Guinean counterpart scheduled for Wednesday at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Abuja
Coach Salisu gave the assurance while speaking with Journalist shortly after the team’s training session on Tuesday evening.
“We are prepared, we have worked so hard for this game and the boys have put in a lot of positive response, so we are positive ahead of the game”
While speaking on the failure of the CHAN Eagles that failed to qualify for the CHAN tournament at the same MKO Abiola Stadium, Coach Salisu said “we did our best at the CHAN qualifier, we lost some quality players due to injury but we are very optimistic we are going to carry the day this time around”
On Team’s Formation
“You know how I used to play at the national team and even at the club level, my tactics will be based on the quality we have, and as for tomorrow’s game, we might use a 4-3-3 formation”
On THE IMPORTANCE OF QUALIFYING FOR THE OLYMPICS
“It’s very important, we want to qualify but I think it’s one step at a time. Let’s qualify for the AFCON first, if we qualify for the Olympics, I am sure we are going to go far in the tournament”
ON GIFT ORBAN
“We sent him an invitation letter just like other foreign-based players. We are still expecting him, if he comes we are going to look at him and maybe play him the 2nd half or keep him for the 2nd leg”
ON LEAVING IBADAN FOR ABUJA
“Ibadan was a home for us, the governor and everybody supported us. We really miss the Ibadan people but I am sure Abuja will give us more. The game was moved bcuz of the election due to the security of the country”
