On a night that looked like the VAR was going to cost Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s men didn’t let that happen as they recorded a 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.
Darwin Núñez put the away side ahead in the 6th minute with a finish into the right bottom corner to end his 8-game goal drought in the Premier League.
Cody Gakpo thought he had put the Anfield outfit a 2-goal cushion in the 28th minute but the VAR adjusted Núñez to have committed a foul in the build-up.
Harvey Elliott would have another goal ruled out by the VAR in the 55th minute with Mohammed Salah found to have been in an offside position when the England youth international struck the ball into the net.
It would be the returnee and second-half substitute Diogo Jota that would seal the victory few seconds before the end of the normal regulation time.
The win takes Liverpool to the top of the Premier League with 42 points garnered in 19 games having played one more fixture than second placed Arsenal.
