Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured a record-breaking 15 race wins within a season after starting from the pole on race day. His teammate Sergio Pérez could only finish 1.3 seconds behind second-placed Charles Leclerc which ended the hopes of a Red Bull 1-2 in the final championship standings.
The race day at the Yas Marina Circuit had an emotional finale when Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel crossed the finish line for the last time in his F1 career. The four-time world champion finished 10th.
Ferrari for the first this season seemed to have had their strategy right when they were able to keep Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez at bay after the Mexican pitted at lap 15. Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton had his troubles because he had to retire late in the race.
With the completion of this season, all attention will be on next season’s first race in Bahrain. Ferrari and Mercedes will hope to build on the early gains they had at the latter stages of this season.
With the potential investment/research they will get on the wind tunnel and the budget cap penalty to Red Bull, next season will be interesting because of a potential 3-horse race ahead of us.
