The 7th edition of the National Youth Games has come to an end with the closing ceremony held on Saturday.
At the end of the 10-day event, host state Delta retained the title after winning a total of 116 medals across different sports, Team Delta won 51 gold, 34 silver, and 31 bronze medals to continue their dominance in the National Youth Games. Team Delta has won all the previous editions of the Games except for the inaugural edition which was won by Cross River in 2013.
Team Lagos finished second with 21 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze medals while Edo State settled for the third position with 21 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals. Bayelsa State clinched the 4th position with 20 gold, seven silver, and 16 bronze medals.
Team Oyo at the end of the games finished with a total of 17 medals – 4 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze medals across 25 sports.
While speaking at the closing ceremony, the Minister of Sports Development Senator John Owan Enoh who was represented by Patrick Okeke, Director, Grassroot Sports said the Games has realized its objectives as talents have been discovered and will represent the country at the international level.
Delta State is expected to host the next edition of the games given the Memorandum of understanding they signed with the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development to host four editions of the event.
