Shooting Stars defeated local derby rivals Saki United, 2-0, on matchday one of Seyi Makinde Football Volunteer Movement’s maiden edition.
The match was goalless at halftime. The Oluyole Warriors had five chances wasted from the trio of Joshua Akpan, Okachi Anthony and Akintunde Bala.
Saki United almost took the lead in the first half after Fatai Umar’s attempt hit the goal frame in the 23rd minute. Jimoh Quadri and Adebayo Sikiru’s efforts in the 18 yards box were brilliantly saved by Shooting Stars shot-stopper Bamidele Adeniyi.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, Ojetiefian Desmond put the Oluyole Warriors ahead with his first touch through a flick on the header in the 52nd minute. The Ibadan Soccer Lords increased the tally through Anthony Okachi in the 63rd minute.
Shooting Stars will next play the winner of Wednesday’s fixture between Crown FC and Oyo State Housing Corporation FC at the LAUTECH football pitch, Ogbomoso, at 3 pm.
