The French Football Federation(FFF) led by Noel Le Graet has promised to review their agreement on players’ image rights as soon as possible as Paris Saint-Germain forward refused to take part in team photo and sponsored activities.
Les Blues are scheduled to stage a team photo and other sponsor activities at their training base in Clairefontaine on Tuesday ahead of their 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe had earlier on Monday made his decision not to take part in any team photo and sponsor activities known, especially when it involves betting companies and some fast food chains.
In March, Mbappe, who was an integral part of the French team that won their second FIFA World Cup title 2018, had refused to join his team-mates for sponsored activities and even asked Le Graet to review the agreement on players’ image rights.
“I have decided to not take part in the photo shoot after the French federation’s refusal to change the image rights agreement with the players” Mbappe said in a statement.
“My representatives and I fully regret that no agreement could be reached, as asked, before the World Cup.”
However, after a 45- minutes meeting on Monday that involves some key senior players like Hugo Lloris, Raphael Varane, Kylian Mbappe as well as the coach, Didier Deschamps, Noel Le Graet has now assured that agreement on players’ image rights will be resolved as soon as possible.
The FFF said in a statement: “After positives exchanges between the leaders of the team, the president of the federation, the head coach and a member of the marketing department of the federation, the FFF is committed to revise as quickly as possible the agreement on the image rights tied to the players.”
“The federation is delighted to work over a new agreement.”
The Blues will face Austria on Thursday and Denmark on Sunday in a Nations League fixtures during this week’s international break before their World Cup title defence in Qatar begins in November.
