World Champion, Tobiloba Amusan, has been awarded a sum of five million naira and a house. She has also become the Sports Ambassador in her native state, Ogun state.
She received all these months after breaking the 100m hurdle world record (12.06 seconds).
Amusan received the award at the Ogun State Government House, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, where she and her management team met with Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Governor Dapo Abiodun commended her on her determination to excel, urging other youths to emulate her and develop their natural talents as he named her the Sports Ambassador of the state.
The Governor described Amusan as a role model to the girl-child and a practical example of a truism that what a man can do, a woman can even do better.
She was also given a house in Ijebu Ode plus a token of five million naira. The governor added that he wanted her to come home frequently and live in the house given to her.
He added that the call by the star athlete to use the stadium to train whenever she is in the country would further prompt his administration to fast-track the rehabilitation of the stadium.
He noted that the story of the World, Commonwealth and African Champion would further educate those who still look at the combination of sports and education as a waste of time.
In her remarks, Amusan, while acknowledging the support of Abiodun towards her success, called on the Federal Government to do more for athletes.
