South Africa U17 star Michael Dokunmu has explained why he decided to represent South Africa at the expense of Nigeria.
Dokunmu who was named on the final list of South Africa’s Amajimbos earlier in the week by the team head coach Crowie Duncan was born to Nigerian parents in Kimberly South Africa.
He opened up during a chat with BBC Correspondent Shina Okeleji, he said he can’t wait to face Nigeria’s Golden Eaglet in Algeria.
“I chose South Africa because it’s my birthplace. I am more comfortable playing for my birthplace and because I love South Africa and it was one of my dreams & goals to get called up.
And from here the U20s and gradually going on to make my debut for Bafana. I am looking forward to playing against Morocco and also Nigeria (at AFCON U17), that’s going to be something, but I am really hungry to play against them. I am confident in my team & also myself”, he said.
