Arsenal’s Pablo Marí says he feels “lucky” to have escaped life-threatening injuries after being stabbed and seeing “a person die in front of me” in an Italian supermarket.
Mari was among six people attacked at a shopping centre in the Italian city.
The 29-year-old, currently on a season-long loan at Monza, is now recovering, with local reports claiming one of six victims – said to be an employee of the supermarket – has died.
Milan’s Niguarda hospital said on Friday its trauma team had carried out surgery to reconstruct two injured muscles in Mari’s back. Surgeon Alberto Chiara revealed that the belly muscles were stitched together, and Mari could return to work in two months.
Supermarket employee Luis Fernando Ruggieri, 47, has been named as the man killed in Thursday’s attack in Milan.
Another employee was left injured along with four customers, including Marí.
