Malawian International and Inter Milan women’s star striker Tabitha Chawinga have made it clear that she is ready to dethrone Nigeria’s Super Falcon forward Asisat Oshoala as African Women Player of the Award.
The Nigerian international has dominated the award winning it for a record 5 times, including last year.
Chawinga, who is on a season-long loan from Chinese champions Wuhan, scored 23 goals in 21 games for the Nerazzurri and becomes the first African woman to win the golden boot in Italy.
Her latest feat also means she becomes the only African woman to win the league golden boot in three countries abroad after finishing as the top scorer once in Sweden and thrice in China.
“Every player should desire to get that African Women’s Player of the Year award. My eyes remain fixed on the prize.
All in good time, my hands remain expectant whilst I continue to play good football”, she said.
Chawinga, who made a goalscoring debut for Inter Milan in a 4-1 win over Parma on August 28, 2022, grabbed her 23rd goal of the season in a 2-1 defeat at Roma on May 20, 2023.
