The President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Chief Tonobok Okowa has assured that Team Nigeria’s contingent to this year’s African Under seventeen/ twenty Junior Championship will do well at the games.
Chief Okowa said this while speaking with journalists at the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.
The AFN President who has since departed Nigeria for Zambia said that the Team had undergone intensive training at the Steven Keshi International Stadium for over two weeks and they have been primed to perform optimally at the Games in Ndola, Zambia.
Chief Okowa who is also the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission asserted that Team Nigeria athletes have shown a steady improvement stressing that they can hold their own against the rest of Africa.
He also assured that the AFN would continue to seek ways of improving on Nigeria’s performance in international meets as they would ensure that they got the best of training as well as being abreast with tee latest facilities in Athletics.
The AFN President also commended the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development led by Chief Sunday Dare for the immense support saying theAFN and its athletes would not let Nigerians down in Ndola while urging Nigerians to keep praying for the Team as they take on the rest of Africa.
The 2023 edition of the African Under Eighteen and Under Twenty Junior Championship taking place in Ndola, Zambia is expected to commence on April 29th
