Antoine Griezmann has signed a contract until 2026 with Atletico Madrid, who he left in 2019 for Barcelona in a £103m deal.
The 31-year-old signed on loan at Atletico last season, and the club extended his temporary stay this term before making his return permanent.
The French footballer has signed a contract until 2026, having left the club in a £103m deal three years ago.
Griezmann re-joined Atletico on loan from Barca in August 2021, which was extended for this season in the summer.
Here’s Atletico’s official statement:
“Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann, who since the summer of 2021 and until now had played for our club on loan from FC Barcelona. In addition, the French striker has signed a contract that will link him to our club until 30 June 2026.”
Griezmann’s purchase option had reportedly been set at €40 million, but president Joan Laporta confirmed on Sunday he’s gone for €20m plus variables.
The forward has been limited to playing a substitute role in the season’s early weeks. Coming on after the 60th minute on many occasions because Atletico was trying to avoid paying Barca the total amount. However, it seems a solution has finally been found, and Griezmann can now start a few games.
