Roberto Martínez has left his role as Head Coach of the Belgium national team after his side failed to qualify from their group at the World Cup.
His star-studded sided who were pre-tournament favoritescould only manage a slim victory over Canada, a shock 2 nil loss to Morocco and an uninspiring draw to Croatia earlier today. This stat saw them placed 3rd in Group F behind second placed Croatia.
Before the kickoff, there were muted claims this game would determine his future as coach. Belgium needed an outright win to qualify but failed to convert the chances they got.
Roberto Martínez was appointed as coach of Belgium on 3rdAugust, 2016 and was appointed as Technical Director for Belgium’s national teams in 2020. He was due for a new contract after the World Cup but after the “golden generation” of the current Belgium squad which he managed failed to win any trophy even after staying on top of the FIFA rankings between September 2018 and March 2022.
