The Atlas Lions of Morocco were winners in Group F after getting maximum points against bottom-placed Canada after a 2 – 1 victory over the North Americans.
The Moroccans opened the scoring after Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech pounced on a loose ball to punish the Canadian defence in the 4th minute. The North African team continued to be assertive in the game with direct passes and their pressure paid off when Youssef En-Nesyri double the lead midway in the first half.
Canada had a goal of theirs through an own-goal scored after Moroccan centre back put the ball in his own net.
This final scoreline was enough to send Morocco to the next round of the World Cup for the first time since the 1986 tourney in Mexico.
