The hope of having the inaugural edition of the Super League on African soil this year is set to be dashed again as the African soccer ruling body has yet to ratify a deal with Saudi Arabia.
The Asian country is already in talks to back with a $200 million deal to sponsor the new Super League in an agreement that could help their country secure the hosting rights of the 2030 World Cup.
The Super League was first proposed in 2018 by FIFA president Gianni Infantino and it was announced by CAF president Patrice Motsepe in October, is planned to have a prize fund of $100m that includes $11.6 m for the winner and a solidarity fund that brings each of the 53 CAF members association $1m a year towards football development.
It’s believed that the real Super League will be delayed until the 2024/2025 season when the sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabi is expected to commence but a slimmed-down version featuring only 8 teams will be test run from 17th October to 30th November next season.
