Chelsea’s winless run continued today at the Stamford Bridge when they hosted bottom-placed Southampton.
After a record-breaking winter transfer business done, the London side has only won a single game since the beginning of the 2023 in all competitions.
Coming from a midweek loss in the UEFA Champions League to Borussia Dortmund, the travelling Saints fans were the loudest in stadium and they could have seen their team race to an early goal lead but for the quick defending of Kalidou Koulibaly in the 3rd minute.
Nigerian international and Southampton striker Paul Onuachuwas the threat for the Chelsea back-line but the lanky forward could not put the ball in the net. The solitary goal of the game came just before halftime when captain James Ward-Prowse showed his set-piece expertise after scoring from a freekickthat beat goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Chelsea had no answers in the second half and the loss saw them slip to 15th on the Premier League table while Southampton remained bottom.
