Didier Drogba Reacts to Romelu Lukaku’s Horror Show vs Croatia The Red Devils, who have been underwhelming in Qatar, needed a win to secure a spot in the last 16 of the competition.
However, the stalemate saw them crash out of the World Cup in the group stages, with Morocco and Croatia advancing at their expense.
Lukaku, who started the match from the bench, was introduced in the second half of the match to help Belgium find a breakthrough. But the 29-year-old could not make any impact as he missed several chances that he would ordinarily have converted.
With the former Man United striker now under immense criticism, Drogba has jumped into his support, with the Ivorian absolving the Inter Milan loanee of any blame.
According to Drogba, Lukaku’s lack of match fitness may have affected his incisiveness in front of the goal. “We all did (felt sorry for Lukaku), but we cannot put the blame on someone who has been injured the last two months, he comes on for 30 minutes, and you want him to win the game,” Drogba told the BBC via Metro UK.
“As a striker, he should have been a bit more on his toes, but it’s very difficult to blame him for this.”
