After a turbulent offseason, the Celtics got the 2022-23 season off on the right foot.
Led by interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, Boston played off of the momentum of its home crowd en route to a 126-117 victory over the 76ers.
In the win, the Celtics were fueled by the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who each scored 35 points to combine for over half of the team’s scoring offence.
Malcolm Brogdon added 16 points, and Grant Williams finished with 15 as the defending Eastern Conference champions gave interim coach Joe Mazzulla a victory in his debut on a night the team honoured the legacy of Bill Russell.
For the Sixers, James Harden led the way with 35 points on 9-of-14 shooting, while Joel Embiid finished with 26 points and 15 rebounds, but it wasn’t quite enough.
