Real Madrid won their sixth consecutive games in Laliga this season against local rivals Atletico to return to the top of the table, a game that generated so much attention over Vinicius Jr’s goal celebration.
However, the Los Blancos broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Aurelien Tchouameni’s lofted pass over the defence was chested and smashed home beyond Jan Oblak by Rodrygo. The Brazilian reeled away to do the Vini Jr. dance in support of his country man.
Uruguayan Federico Valverde doubled the lead in the 36th minute, his third consecutive goal to go into half-time with a 2-0 lead.
Mario Hermoso pulled one back for the home side after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois missed Antione Griezmann corner and the substitute poked home with his shoulder.
But two yellow cards for Hermoso within three minutes, first for pushing Dani Carvajal and the second for shoving Dani Ceballos.
1987-88 was the last time Madrid won their six opening matches in Laliga.
The win returned Madrid to the top of the table, two points ahead of FC Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid next visit Sevilla on 1 October while Real Madrid host Osasuna the following day.
