Ex-Nigeria International John Mikel Obi has finally opened up on the reason why he has not considered coaching since he retired from the game.
Mikel made his national team debut for Nigeria in the 2001 U17 FIFA World Cup in Finland and spent 13 years with Chelsea before moving to China.
He explained that fear of being sacked is one of the major reasons is not interested in coaching.
” I don’t think so, when I look at my teammates I thought we were going to be absolutely good managers and how things have turned out for them.
But people we are taught are going to consider management, I mean the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho, then I feel it’s not for me.
“Only Frank Lampard has done it, maybe I’ll consider it if they promise not to sack me and allow me to stay forever.
I’m really afraid of getting sacked”, he said.
