Before their match against Sassuolo, Napoli presented a statue of club hero Diego Maradona as a mark of respect. Maradona passed away after a heart attack on November 25 of last year.
The Serie A front-runner put on a stunning performance to tribute Diego Maradona’s passing by thrashing Sassuolo 4-0 to go three points clear atop the standings.
Napoli has also created a sculpture of late football great Diego Maradona’s legendary left foot. The sculpture may be seen in the city’s Scampia neighborhood.
Between 1984 and 1990, Maradona, who was named the best player ever together with Pelé of Brazil, led the once-underrated team to two scudetti and a UEFA Cup.
Aurelio De Laurentiis, the chairman of Napoli, ordered a restricted quantity of the item. Stefano Ceci, a local sculptor, created the piece. In the city where Maradona rose to fame as a soccer great, there are three life-size monuments of him.
The foot was displayed soon after the shirt Maradona wore for his Hand of God and century-goal goals against England in the 1986 World Cup was auctioned off for a record price.
