Ahead of the match day 6 of the Nigeria Premier League against Gombe United, the stand-in skipper of Akwa United David Philip has said they are motivated to change the story.
Despite having a decent performance in the preseason, the Promise Keepers have yet to get a win after 5 rounds of games in the league.
And the pressure is gradually creeping in for the players and the technical crew of the team.
They will face Gombe United on Wednesday in Eket and the captain is already dreaming of their first win of the season.
“Our position on the league table is a matter of great concern to everyone at the club and we are fully aware that it is up to us to get it right in our next game. It’s unbelievable that we are without a win after five matches. Where we are on the table doesn’t really reflect the way we played those games.
“I’m happy that at the moment, the mood in camp is very encouraging and we have motivated ourselves well enough because everyone wants to play and contribute to the team’s success. The level of commitment and determination is such that we just have to get the job done starting with this mid-week match against Gombe United.
“We know it’s not going to be easy but we are prepared and ready to give our all and ensure we record victory. The league is very competitive and we know how much a win will boost our confidence and where we will be on the log. Victory on Wednesday may be the much-needed turnaround to kickstart our season”, he told the club media.
