Sunshine Stars defeated Gateway United recorded its first victory at the ongoing Ogunjobi Gold Cup tournament. The Akure Gunners who shared spoils with Remo Stars on Thursday cruised to a 3-1 victory.
It was the Ogun state based club’s second consecutive defeat at the tournament having fallen to Niger Tornadoes on day one.
First and second halves goals from Alanis Azeez, Obodoagu Mojereola and Emeka Emmanuel. However, Gateway United went away with a consolation goal from Solomon Alade in the 87th minute.
Sunshine Stars drew the first blood in the 10th minute after a poor defence from Gateway United.
Sunshine Stars continued to dominate the NNL side with unrelentless attacks on goal. In the 30th minute, Mojereola doubled the lead from a Adeyemi through pass.
Having conceded two goals in the first half, Gateway United conceded the third goal from Emeka Emmanuel’s finish to Pius Ojo’s cross in the 83rd minute.
However, Gateway United pulled one back from Solomon Alade two minutes later.
Elsewhere, Sporting Lagos continued on a winning note with another lone goal victory over NPFL side, Gombe United.
Okon Saturday scored in the 40th minute for the Lagos based club.
