Action resumes to Group 3 of League A in the UEFA Nations League later tonight when surprise group leaders Hungary are hosted by second-placed Germany later tonight in Leipzig. Though the Germans are still unbeaten after four games played so far, the Hungarians have won games than their opponents.
Germany go into this match with Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka missing due to COVID-19. In addition, Julian Brandt will be out due to illness. Hoffenheim’s goalkeeper, Oliver Baumann has been called to replace Neuer while Vfl Wolfsburg Maximilian Arnold has also received a call up.
The last five matches that pitted Germany against Hungary saw the Germans winning 2 and Hungary getting a win with two draws amongst themselves. The last meeting between both national teams ended in a 1 -1 draw in June.
Germany will be motivated for a victory against the Hungarians because a win will allow them leapfrog them to become group leaders.
However, Hungary will be will want to continue their impressive form in this competition which saw them defeat England home and away.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Thomas Muller has played in the last 5 games for Germany and he is expected to lead the attack later tonight. Leroy Sane and teenage sensation Jamal Musiala will also make strong claims for selection because of their impressive club form. Leipzig point-man, Timo Werner will also want to make a statement for himself and to the coach so as to boost his chances in making the final roster to the World Cup later in the year.
For the Hungarians, Dominik Szoboszlai who incidentally plays for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig will feel accustomed to the atmosphere at the ground tonight and he will be the playmaker to depend on. Union Berlin’s Andras Schafer will also want to get on the scorer’s sheet just like he did when he played against Germany at the UEFA 2020 Euros.
