Bukayo Saka was one of the big omissions from the Premier League team season despite his brilliant performances for Arsenal this season.
Liverpool winger, Mohammed Salah was chosen in his place which raises the question of whether the Egyptian has done enough to justify his place in the team ahead of Saka.
Salah has registered 18 goals and seven assists in 34 appearances for Liverpool while Saka has 13 goals and eleven assists in 34 appearances for Arsenal.
This means the Liverpool forward has more goal contributions than Saka and edges him for goal contribution per game.
It’s also obvious that Salah has more goals and more goals per game than Saka, but it doesn’t stop at that.
According to Transfermarkt, the Egyptian forward has scored more winning goals(6) than the English international(4), which means Salah has won more points for Liverpool with his goals than Saka for Arsenal.
It will also interest you to know that Salah has scored 9 goals against the big 6 ( Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea)this season which is more than any player in the Premier League.
This portends that last year’s Golden Boot winner has been more decisive in big games than Saka.
However, Saka has been more creative with the creation of chances for his teammates than Salah.
Not only does he has more assist than Salah, but he has also created more chances than him.
According to FotMob, only Bruno Fernandes, Kevin De Bruyne and Kieran Trippier have created more chances than the reigning England Men’s Player of the Year in the Premier League this season.
It is also not surprising that he edges Salah in goal-creating actions and shot-creating actions (the last two offensive actions, be it a shot, pass, or foul won etc before a shot is played or a goal is scored). This is according to Fbref.com.
Coincidentally, both Saka and Salah have only failed to score or assist in 16 Premier League games this season.
When you take a look at the foregoing, you would realize that there is nothing much to separate Saka and Salah as both have done well for their respective club sides.
Therefore, it wasn’t unjust, unfair or wrong that the Premier League chose Salah over Saka as either would have them merited a place in the team.
