Runner-up for 2022 Bet9ja Ekiti football league, Eksu Galacticos edged past their opponent, Leo Fc by a slim lone goal win on Sunday.
Despite scoring just a goal, it was a perfect record for the University boys who started last season’s campaign in a barren draw with Sikiru Oladipo’s sublime finish to Dotun Aladejana long pass.
The federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti school pitch was filled with enthusiasm as both supporters cheered their fans to give maximum support.
Leo Fc started the match with full dominance, with offensive attempts to mount pressure on the visitors.
And the first 15 minutes, the University boys had their goalkeeper Alabi Favour to thank for tremendous saves.
Aladejana Dotun’s goal for the University boys in the 20th minute from a tap-into Ajayi Temitayo’s right sided freekick was disallowed for an offside by the assistant referee.
The mercurialian midfielder soon provided an assist for Oladipo Sikiru 15 minutes later to put the University boys in front.
The University boys continued to dominate possession at the early stage of the second half while Leo Fc was left to chase the shadow.
However, the match experienced a switch in momentum after a four-man substitutes pressured Galacticos defense but the university boys back four were able to keep the hosts at bay.
Meanwhile Coach Babajide Coupon after the match said the boys failed to implement the usual tactics in the latter minutes of the game.
He also added that Ajayi Tayo might not be available for the next game due to a thigh injury.
“I don’t expect much in this match, we failed to maintain our tactics and play a balanced game instead we gave ourselves an assignment to solve in the last thirty minutes of the game, but thankfully we got the three points.”
The University boys will be playing against Adeyeye Adebowale fc who lost 5-3 to Are fc on Friday, 17th March.
