Cape Town Tigers, a South Africa-based Basketball side, has signed Nigerian star Michael Gbinije.
Michael Gbinije was the first Nigerian to be drafted into the NBA after playing for the National Basketball Team of the Nigeria D’Tigers.
Michael Gbinije is a former NBA prospect, drafted in 2016 by the Detroit Pistons. He is also an Olympian for the Nigerian Men basketball team, D’Tigers.
He played for the Detroit Pistons, Santa Cruz Warriors and Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA and NBA G leagues, respectively.
The Cape Town Tigers announced his arrival to the club through their Twitter handle, saying, “We’re extremely excited to announce the signing of former NBA star & Olympian for the Nigerian National team Michael Gbinije!”.
Michael Gbinije joined the Cape Town Tigers from the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League, averaging 3.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game last season.
He would be playing in Africa for the first time at the club level after playing in the United States for all his career.
He will join the Cape Town Tigers as they intensify their preparations for the BAL ( Basketball Africa League).
