Liverpool will be without striker Luis Diaz until at least December after the Colombian suffered a knee injury in his side’s defeat to Arsenal.
Diaz had to be subbed in the first half amid fears he would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Fortunately, no surgery is required, but it is still a substantial blow for Jurgen Klopp, with Liverpool struggling in 10th in the Premier League.
Diaz has been Liverpool’s most consistent performer this season, following a sensational introduction to English football following his move to Anfield in January.
No timescale has been put on Diaz’s return, except he will not feature again until after the World Cup.
Liverpool faces Rangers in the Champions League on Wednesday before Manchester City on Sunday. They are already out of the title race and need a radical upturn in form to ensure they do not fall too far behind the top four places.
