Sylvanus Okpala, a former assistant coach in the Super Eagles, has prompted the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and those in charge of the team to stop begging any player to play for Nigeria.
Okpala emphasised that no player born outside Nigeria should be pleaded with this year to play for the three-time African champions.
Over the years, the Nigerian Football chiefs strived to make some players play for the Super Eagles, but many rejected the offers.
Before Amaju Pinnick left office as NFF President, he tried to convince the likes of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to play for Nigeria, but they chose England.
Okpala explained that such a thing must be corrected in the Super Eagles, claiming that many home-based players can make the country proud.
Okpala said that “One thing that must be corrected for the Super Eagles to return to its glory days is for coaches and the NFF not to beg any player to play for the team. When a player turns down the offer of playing for the Super Eagles, he should be left alone.
