Redbull’s Max Verstappen further opened a,116-point lead in the drivers’ championship after winning the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ George Russell completed the podium at the Temple of Speed.
The race at Monza was the last for September ,before heading for a 3-week break. Going into this race weekend, several constructors took grid penalties of which the race winner was. Although Max finished behind Ferrari’s Leclerc in the qualifying race who took pole, he still started from 7th place on race day because of a 5-place grid penalty for taking too many engine parts.
However, it was a fairly easy race for the dutchman,as he was able to climb up to 4th halfway into the first lap. And by the 13th lap of the race, Max Verstappen was already race leader. There was a dramatic end to the race after McLaren’s Danny Ricciardo crashed his car in the 47th lap, and forcing the race to finish under a safety car.
Today’s win for Max was his first at Monza and his fifth consecutive race win this season.
