Manchester United will be playing in the finals of this season’s league cup after defeating Nottingham Forest 2 – 0 at home in the second leg of the semi-final played at the Old Trafford stadium.
Goals from French forward Anthony Martial and Brazilian midfielder Fred sunk any hopes of a miracle for the Steve Cooper led boys from Nottingham after they lost the first leg 3 nil eight days ago.
The fight half at the Old Trafford had chances fall for both sides but both goalkeepers were on top of their game to keep out efforts from every attack. Upon resumption from the halftime break, the home team increased the tempo of play and it was the substitute Martial who broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute after a mistake by the Forest back-line. Fred was on target three minutes later to double United’s lead after he scored the winning goal following a Marcus Rashfordcross.
The victory at the Old Trafford saw Manchester United winning 5 – 0 on aggregate and they will now play Newcastle United at the Wembley stadium on Sunday February 26.
