Aryna Sabalenka came from a set down to win her first grand slam after defeating Elena Rybakina in women’s singles final after 2hrs 28mins.
On a night of tactical masterclass from the ladies, it was Elena Rybakina who raced to a 6-4 first set lead after a combination of baseline shots and service aces. Sabalenka however stayed in touching distance from the second set by taking advantage of her service game and deservedly took the second set. The same was said in the deciding set however Rybakina’s late revival was not enough as Sabalenka held her nerve when she served for her fourth championship point. The game ended 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in favour of the Belarusian.
The men’s final will take place on Sunday between StefanosTsitsipas and Novak Djokovic on the Rod Laver Arena.
