It was a feisty end to the game between Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano when both teams were down to ten men after the red card was flashed.
However, FC Barcelona would care less because the solitary goal scored by striker Ousmane Dembélé in the 22nd minute give the Catalans maximum points on the night and also move up to the summit of the La Liga table. With Polish striker Robert Lewandowski missing due to his match ban, Ansu Fati was called up as a replacement.
The goal scored by Dembélé was his 4th in the league and it proved to be valuable against a stubborn Atlético side.
Atlético Madrid had their chances but Giménez and Griezmann could not hit the target.
Both sides however finished the game with 10 players each after Stefan Savić and Ferran Torres were shown red after clashing.
Speaking after the game, Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone admitted that his side did not start the game with intensity until the Dembélé goal.
With Real Madrid losing to away Villarreal on Saturday, FC Barcelona’s victory saw them go three points ahead of second placed Real Madrid on the league table.
