Bono has been nominated for FIFA’s ‘THE BEST’ Award as a result of his strong performance at the 2022 World Cup and a promising start to his La Liga campaign with Sevilla.
The Morocco national team goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Bono) has been nominated for the 2022 FIFA ‘THE BEST’ award.
FIFA announced the list of seven candidates for the Best Men’s Goalkeeper Award, which will honour accomplishments between August 8 and December 18, 2022 and Bono has made a cut.
He has been nominated for the award alongside Thibout Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium), Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb/Croatia), Mike Maignan (AC Milan/France), Emiliano Martnez (Aston Villa/Argentina), and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Alemania).
Bono was a key member of the Moroccan squad that made history at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, contributing a string of impressive performances for the Atlas Lions, who reached the semi-finals for the first time ever.
He shared the most clean-sheets (3) at the World Cup in Qatar with Emiliano Martinez of Argentina and Jordan Pickford of England.
Bono also played a significant role in Sevilla having the best defensive record in La Liga in 2021–2022; for his contributions, he was given the award for the best goalkeeper in the league.
After Senegal’s Edouard Mendy, who won it last year, the Moroccan will now hope to take home the prize and become only the second African to do so.
The Awards will be held on 27th February 2023.
