The Togolese international who was able to play for the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, and Real Madrid ended his career at a Togolese club AC Semmasi which he joined back in 2021.
He announced his retirement via social media Instagram and said he was excited for the next chapter of his life.
The 39-year-old played 659 games and scored 236 goals for both clubs and the county.
Adebayor began his career in his country Togo at AC Merlan Lome before securing a move to Europe in 1999 as a 15-year-old, with French side FC Metz youth side.
He then switched to Monaco before Arsene Wenger brought him to Arsenal in January 2006 and later moved to Manchester City.
He later secured a move to Spain to play for Real Madrid on loan from Man City for 6 months where he won his only trophy, Copa del Rey. He was sent back to North London but this time it was to play for Arsenal’s local rivals Tottenham.
The Togolese international then moved to Crystal Palace, Basaksehir, Kayserispor, and Olimpia Asuncion before ending his career back in Togo with AC Semmasi.
He is also Togo’s all-time top scorer with 26 goals in 65 international appearances, and a five-time Togolese Footballer of the Year, as well as a one-time African Footballer of the Year, winning that award in 2008.
