Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles attacker Kanu Nwankwo has revealed how his participation in the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia led to his departure from the English Premier League side Arsenal.
The Super Eagles finished 3rd in the competition with Kanu playing an active role in the team.
Former Inter Milan forward explained that it’s not easy to get back into the team, the moment you are out on international duty.
“It was difficult, because in a team with so many good players, when you lose your place, it’s difficult to get it back.
Obviously, Arsenal did very well during my absence, so it was difficult for me to get back into the team after I left. Sometimes it worked the other way.
when you leave, sometimes they need you back in the team or need to change things, but this season they didn’t need to change anything,” he said.
Kanu appeared at the 6 African Cup of Nations for Nigeria.
