Seven-time Ballon D’or winner Leo Messi wins the player of the month UNFP trophy for September in Ligue 1.
The former Player of the Year awardee continued his return to top form this season by notching three assists and a goal in the league last month, including the winning goal in the away win against Lyon.
Overall, he has eight goals and eight assists in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, having ostensibly settled in after a challenging first year. He is excelling as he pulls the strings behind Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi has been named Ligue 1 player of the month for September by the players’ union, having taken 58% of the vote. He beat out Lorient’s Dango Ouattara – 31% – and Lille striker Jonathan David, with the league’s joint top scorer getting 12% of votes cast.
Messi becomes the second PSG player to win the award this campaign, with his Brazilian teammate having been named August’s best player after a beautiful start to the season of his own. The Argentine had also been among the nominees for the campaign’s first month.
