An Álvaro Morata goal in the in the 88th minute was enough for Spain to defeat hosts Portugal in Braga.
Luis Henrique’s men had the lion-share of the possession but but teams had chances to go ahead. Portugal’s Bruno Fernandes found Diogo Jota in the box with a delightful ball but the Spanish goalkeeper Simón, palmed the ball away. Fernandes thought he had given the hosts the lead but his fierce shot from outside the box could only find the side-netting.
Both goalkeepers were tested and had huge saves to make during the game until Álvaro Morata tapped in from a flick just two minutes before normal time. Ronaldo could have equalized moments later but his shot was straight into Unai Simón’s feet.
The victory takes Spain into the last four of the competition and ended hopes of Portugal winning the trophy again.
