Manchester United came from behind to win their Europa League game against Omonia Nicosia at the GSP Stadium after falling behind in the first half.
Two second half goals from substitute Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial were the catalyst United needed in the second half. The hosts also got another goal late in the second half but it was not to be United were 3 – 2 winners away in Cyprus.
Manchester United started brighter of both teams in the first half with Cristiano Ronaldo failing to find the back of net with his efforts on goal. The hosts incidentally took the lead against the run of play when United defender Tyrell Malacia failed to deal with a pass allowing Omonia to counter which saw Karim Ansarifard score in the 34th minute.
United’s Erik Ten Hag replaced Malacia at the break with Luke Shaw and he also brought in Marcus Rashford for Jadon Sancho. Rashford’s impact was proved to perfect when he curled in a beautiful shot beyond the keeper for United’s equalizer in the 53rd minute.
Ten minutes later, another substitute in Anthony Martial completed the comeback when he got scored. Rashford got his second on the night after dealing with a loose shot from Ronaldo in the 84th minute. Omonia scored almost immediately from the restart and laboured for an equalizer which did not come after the referee blew the final whistle after the four minutes of added time.
The result means United are second on the group behind Real Sociedad who also won their match against FC Sheriff. Manchester United’s next game in the Europa League will against Omonia at the Old Trafford on the 27th of October.
