The head coach of the Nigeria Premier Football League side Akwa United Deji Ayeni has insisted that their main goal presently is to secure a spot in the Super 6 playoffs.
The Promise Keeper started the 2023 season on a shaky note, losing 0-2 at home to the newly promoted Bendel Insurance but since then they’ve picked themselves up and have recorded some fantastic results.
While speaking on Fresh FM 105.9, a former Sunshine Star coach revealed that they want to move from step to step.
“Based on the way we started because it’s not always easy for a team that started like that, I won’t say I’m satisfied but I will say it is not good enough.
I will say rediscovered ourselves to come back to winning ways, so we are now strategising for the second round to make sure that what we experienced first round will not repeat itself.
If watched our game against Insurance it was not as if we played badly but football can be very dynamic”, he said.
Our target is to get to the Super Six Six, which is paramount now, so when we get to the Super Six then we work on how to get to the continent because it’s step by step.
We want to maintain our winning streak in the second round and get to the Super Six
